Homeowners Insurance

When disaster strikes do you know if your home and property have sufficient coverage?

No one wants to think about negative issues that could arise in their life. However, a knowledgeable insurance professional can walk you through the potentially damaging incidences that could occur and help you design a comprehensive plan to help ensure that the last thing that you are concerned about, should disaster strike, is money and your family’s security.

RS Financial Group professionals are guided by governing principles to do what is best for our clients. We are an independent insurance agency, and as such, we can bring the best carrier with the best price for your individual needs. Homeowner’s Insurance 101

  • What does homeowner’s insurance cover?

A typical homeowner’s policy will pay for damage to your property and your possessions in the event of certain storms, fire, theft or vandalism. A policy also provides liability coverage if someone gets injured on your property and take legal action . Homeowner’s insurance also covers loss of use of your home. This means that during the rebuild of your home, your insurance provider may cover your hotel or temporary housing bills.

Did you know that if a personal item is stolen from your car it is not covered under your auto insurance, but it might be covered under your homeowner’s insurance depending upon the policy guidelines and protection package chosen by the client?

  • What does homeowner’s insurance not cover?

Typically your homeowner's policy has written exclusions that could include any or all of the following: landslides, earthquakes, sinkholes, power failure, war, nuclear hazard, government action, faulty zoning, bad repair or workmanship, defective maintenance and flooding.

On the other hand most homeowner’s insurance policies will include coverage for damage caused by Windstorms, including tornadoes. Some insurance companies may exclude tornadoes or hurricanes in high-risk areas.

It is always best to consult your insurance professional when needing advisement pertaining to water damage claims.

  • Why should you shop around?

Not all insurance professionals are alike, here at First and Main Insurance we put our clients needs and protections first! We take ultimate pride and care in making sure we understand our clients’ exposures to risk. When shopping around make sure you remember to ask these questions:

Why did they choose this profession?
How long have they been in the business?
Do they seek out individual continuing education or product knowledge training?
Is the insurance professional able to offer a variety of insurance companies to obtain the rates?
Why did they select the package they selected for you?

Rule of thumb, don’t just shop for the best policy at the lowest price, take time to select the best insurance professional.

  • Which preventive actions can reduce premiums?

To simplify risk assessment, most insurance premiums are based on how much risk they foresee. To counteract higher premiums you can reduce your liability risk by following these simple guidelines:

Install a fence around your pool or trampoline.
Install fire and carbon monoxide detectors.
Install a security alarm that is monitored.
Keep your exterior free of intrigue by placing lawn equipment in sheds or garages.

  • How to Save by Bundling

One of the easiest and best ways to save money on your insurance policies is to have everything under one agency roof. Bundling not only possibly helps save you money but also may help save you time and confusion by having one name and one phone number to call.
